After months of speculation, WWE has confirmed that WWE SmackDown is going live!
WWE has announced via WWE.com and their various social media accounts that beginning July 19 WWE Smackdown will move from Thursday to Tuesday night and will air Live every week at 8/7 c on the USA Network!
From the looks of the announcement, the brand split is officially back. Raw and Smackdown will have their own unique roster and rivalries – no mention of title belts, so I am guessing the champ will either pull double duty like before, or they will introduce (or bring back) another belt.
The announcement did note that there is to be an imminent Superstar Draft. The brand split had been rumored for a while, as the WWE Roster has been quickly filling up with NXT call ups and Main Roster returns.
I think the brand split is a good thing. It will give more Superstars a chance to shine and give others an extra day of healing time. I just hope that it is truly independent, and isn’t 30 minutes of RAW recaps in the two hour Smackdown Show. And for the love of all that is good in the world – please have separate writing teams – and give Paul Heyman the head writer duties for whichever brand you want to be more successful. (Remember when Paul ran Smackdown and it was an overall better show that Raw on a weekly basis? I do.)
Beginning July 19, SmackDown moves from Thursday to Tuesday nights, airing LIVE on USA Network each and every week, and feature a distinct roster.
